Kopitar is the on the receiving end of a great shot-pass from the D man
Here is the breakdown
A. Puck Movement-On the Powerplay the Kings move the puck around and switch sides making it hard for the Penalty Killers to stay in position. Good, quick puck movement will create lanes to the net for the PP to use to create offensive chances.
B. Shot With Traffic- As the D man lines up to take the shot the Penalty Killers and Goalie have to expect that the shot is coming to the net. The D man has traffic in front and a clear lane, why wouldn't he shoot? He doesn't shoot because he see's a better opportunity to score using a SHOT PASS.
C. Backdoor Defelction- As the D man is getting ready to wind up and shoot, Kopitar puts himself into a lane where his D man can see him and his stick is available. By showing his stick he gives a target where he wants the puck. All he has to do is let the puck hit his stick and re-direct into the net. His placement basically takes the goalie out of the play as the goalie has to worry about the shot and the traffic.
A great play by the D man who has his head up as he is shooting to see the open lane and the scoring chance. Using a SHOT PASS creates a great goal. Come work on your deception when shooting in our Spring Shooting Program starting in April.
