THE WEEKLY WORD RETURNS FOR ITS "LUCKY" 13TH EPISODE, AND RINGS IN THE YEAR 2012...THIS WEEK WE FOCUS IN ON ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE RINK FAMILY, AND FOLLOW THAT UP WITH OUR 3 STARS...

JAMES HENRY
MOOSE JAW WARRIORS (WHL)

James calls Winnipeg Home in the Summer's, but in the Winter's Vancouver has been his home for the last 5 years until yesterday, when James was dealt in a blockbuster Western Hockey League trade to the Moose Jaw Warriors...Henry has been the Captain of the Giants for the last two years, and is know for letting his play dictate his leadership, more so than his words...James had 184 Points in 280 Games with the Giants before being dealt yesterday...Henry battled through an injury plagued season in 2010 - 2011, to rebound with 41 Points in 41 Games so far this season with the Giants...Known for his hard work and determination, Henry could be seen during the Christmas break going hard at ELITE PERFORMANCE...James will be a welcome addition to the Warriors Locker Room, as both a leader on and off the ice...Wishing James the best of luck in Moose Jaw, and continued success in 2012...GO WARRIORS GO....

Chrisitan Stockl - Winnipeg Wild

STOCKL and The Wild have been Red hot all season long, only dropping one contest all season...Christian has left off right where he did before the break, with 3 Pts. (2 G and 1 A) in just 3 Games...STOCKL was also recently selected to the Provincal Midget All Star Game being held in Morden...

2ND STAR...
James Henry -  Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL)

HENRY, has continued his solid pace since Christmas...JAMES had 9 Pts. in just 5 Games....This has James sitting with 41 PTS in just 41 Games (6G AND 35 Assists)...Moose Jaw Warrior fans should be extremely excited about their team with the addition of Henry...Good luck in the "Jaw" James... 1ST STAR...
Michael St. Croix - Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL)

ST. CROIX has been destroying the competition since the World Junior Camp, and this continued after the Christmas Break....Since the Break Saint has had 15 PTS in just 7 Games, which has him sitting in 4th overall in WHL Scoring...Add that to his total points, and Michael is sitting at 67 PTS in just 42 Games (25 G and 42 A)...Add his recent WHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD and there should be no arguments as to why Michael was selected as THE WEEKLY WORD 1ST STAR....Nice Work Saint...CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MORE ON MICHAEL...

THE WEEKLY WORD UPDATE...
BRENDAN O'DONNELL 
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA FIGHTING SIOUX (FR)

This WEEK we head down across the border to Grand Forks, North Dakota, to get caught up with another member of THE RINK TEAM...BRENDAN O'DONNELL...O'Donnell grew up in Winnipeg and played his Minor hockey throughout the Winnipeg Minor Hockey System... It was in Midget when Brendan really began to make people take notice, as he fired 83 POINTS in just 38 Games Played...After lighting up the Midget Provincial League, O'Donnell joined the WINNIPEG SOUTH BLUES for his 1ST Junior season at only 17...Brendan left off right where he ended his last season with the WILD, and he threw up 61 points in his first season of Junior, and was rewarded for his hard work by being selected in the 2010 NHL ENTRY DRAFT by the TAMPA BAY LIGHTING...Next season, O'Donnell ended up leaving the comfortable confines of his home province, and headed to beautiful PENTICTON, BC where he joined the Junior A"Powerhouse" PENTICTON VEES of the BRITISH COLUMBIA HOCKEY LEAGUE...Here Brendan continued to grow with 72 POINTS in 58 regular season games...  This season brought Brendan's Junior Career to a conclusion, which was highlighted with TWO APPEARANCES at the World Junior A Challenge as a member of TEAM WEST...Now, O'Donnell is settling in to the new confines of the beautiful RALPH ENGLESTAD ARENA...He has battled a couple of Injuries early in the Season, but has really started to find his game as the season moves forward... Brendan is another member of THE RINK TEAM, that could be found on THE RINK ice at the "Crack of Dawn" all Summer Long working on his game...This week we Salute BRENDAN O'DONNELL, Hard work paying off in DIVIDENDS...Look for Brendan to make another appearance in this EPISODE OF THE WEEKLY WORD...

Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL)


Micheal is becoming a regular on THE WEEKLY WORD...St. Croix had 1 Goal and 5 Assists over a 2 Game Span...NICE WORK SAINT!!

Harms makes his return from Injury, and made an immediate impact this past week...He had 3 Goals and 3 assists over a 3 Game span...Happy to see you back in the line up Harmsy!!

THE WEEKLY WORD UPDATE....
MELISSA JAQUES - DMITROV TORNADOES
 
Sticking with our European Theme from last week, we head across the pond again this week to DMITROV, RUSSIA, to catch up with MELISSA JAQUES.  Melissa is another member of THE RINK TEAM that made the trek over to Europe for the 2011 - 2012 Season.  This is her second season with the team out of DMITROV, who play in the top PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S  LEAGUE IN RUSSIA.  Before she made the long trek over to Moscow, Melissa was a star at UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA, as a member of the FIGHTING SIOUX.  Jaques was The SIOUX'S LEADING SCORER in her SENIOR YEAR.  Before that, she honed her skills in Alberta at the prestigious WARNER HOCKEY SCHOOL.  It was there that Melissa earned her scholarship to the ultimate college hockey school in North Dakota.  Jaques could be seen this summer working out at ELITE PERFORMANCE, and then skating on the ice with the JUNIOR/ PRO RINK GROUP, and holding her own with the guys, making a few of them look silly more than a few times... Many RINK regulars however were not around as MELISSA took to the ice at 6AM twice a week throughout the summer to take part in conditioning skates, that left her red faced, and short of breath... But she always would leave the ice with a smile, knowing her hard work would pay off this season...So THIS WEEKS SHOUT OUT  is to MELISSA JAQUES, whose hard work and perseverance have allowed her to play professional hockey in one of the top women's leagues in the world.
 KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK IN THE NEW YEAR MELISSA!!!

 HENRY makes his return to THE WORD after firing a 3 ASSIST effort on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9, versus the visiting Portland Winter Hawks...HARD WORK PAYING OFF..

St. Croix has become a regular as of late on THE WORD...This past week Michael continues his streak with 1 GOAL and 4 ASSIST in just 2 GAMES...On Thursday, St. Croix Assisted on 2, and was Plus 2...Than on Saturday, St. Croix fired 1 Goal and 2 Assists versus PA...Nice Work SAINT...

Jared Morris - Winnipeg Blues (MJHL)
 Morris IS BACK after sniping a HAT TRICK (3 GOALS) versus Dauphin on DECEMBER 9, then following that up with 1 GOAL and an ASSIST in the BLUES next TWO tilts...Do the FAST MATH on that one....THAT'S 5 POINTS (4 G and 1 A) in just 3 GAMES...SOLID WORK "J MO"...

WEDNESDAY'S WILL NOW OFFER AN EXPANDED VERSION OF THE WEEKLY WORD, FEATURING THE WEEKLY WORD UPDATE, plus Our THREE STARS of the week...THE WEEKLY WORD UPDATE Segment will give readers an inside track on where and how some of top athletes THAT MAKE UP THE RINK FAMILY are performing, while OUR THREE STARS, will highlight the accomplishments of our athletes....

TYLER METCALFE - ARYSTAN TEMIRTAU (KAZAKHSTAN VYSCHAYA LIGA)

Tyler made the long journey over to KAZAKHSTAN towards the end of August, with just his hockey bag, and a bag of clothes, not sure what to expect with this new opportunity... Metcalfe was formally a member of the UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA GOLDEN BEARS, and became a distinguished member of this organization when he was named Team CAPTAIN in his final Season...He then spent a season in HUNGARY where he tore up the Hungarian Hockey ranks, winning the distinguished SILVER HELMET, which is presented to the LEAGUE LEADER in GOALS...And now his Hockey JOURNEY has taken him to Kazykhstan where TYLER has made the most of his OPPORTUNITIES...METCALFE currently has 17 PTS (5 G - 12 A) in just 25 Games Played, and became THE FIRST CANADIAN EVER TO SCORE A GOAL in the KAZAKHSTAN VYSCHAYE LIGA, when he potted his 1st of the season...Not bad for a Small town CANADIAN KID...Tyler recently sat down for an interview with a journalist over in Kazakhstan....HERE IS THE ATTACHED LINK......THE ARTICLE APPEARS UNDER THE "NEWS OF HOCKEY" OPTION...PLEASE BARE WITH THE TRANSLATION AS THE SITE IS WRITTEN IN RUSSIAN...KEEP UP THE SOLID WORK METZ...

O'Donnell fired 2 Goals this past weekend, including the game winner over the University of Alaska Anchorage...The TAMPA BAY LIGHTHING Draft pick has 3G in 10 games in his Freshman Year with the Sioux.


2ND STAR...
Jon Gaudet - Winnipeg Saints (MJHL)

Gaudet was recently named the MJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK after he fired 8 points in 3 games (5G - 3 A)..Jon currently has 21 Points (8 G - 13 A) in 27 games.. CLICK HERE FOR MORE ON JON...

MICHAEL ST. CROIX - Edmonton Oil Kings

St. Croix, whom recently took part in the Subway Series has been on a tear as of late...On Friday, Nov. 25, St. Croix posted a 1 GOAL effort versus the Medicine Hat Tigers....He then followed that up on Saturday with a FOUR - POINT effort (2 GOALS and 2 ASSISTS) vs. the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes....This gave St. Croix a total of 5 Points (3 Goals and 2 Assists) in just 2 Games played....."SAINT" currently leads his team in Points with 33 Points (13 GOALS and 20 ASSISTS) in just 26 Games Played...Nice WORK!!!

TRAVIS BROWN - Moose Jaw Warriors

Travis was recently ranked in the preliminary rankings of the NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING BUREAU, and now follows this week up with his FIRST MULTI POINT EFFORT...Brown had a GOAL and an ASSIST versus the Brandon Wheat kings on Friday, November 25...Good Work Brownie!!


FROM PROVINCIAL MIDGET...

CHRISTIAN STOCKL - Winnipeg Wild

The Recently selected member of TEAM WEST for the U17 Tournament, STOCKL and his WILD, have been nothing short of perfect this season....The team remains undefeated, carrying their winning streak to 21 GAMES (NOT BAD EH??!!), and Christian is leading the way...He fired out 5 POINTS (2 GOALS and 3 ASSISTS) in only 2 GAMES this past weekend...Stockl now has 40 POINTS in just 19 GAMES (22 GOALS and 18 ASSISTS) to lead the Provincial Midget League...Keep up the good work!!

RILEY DERLAGO - Winnipeg Thrashers


Riley had a great weekend, Leading his Thrasher's to 2 victories...Derlago posted a 4 POINT weekend, with 2 GOALS AND 2 ASSISTS in just 2 GAMES played...The THRASHERS sit in Second overall in the EAST DIVISION to only the league leading WILD...Keep up the good work Riley!!

REIMER has been leading the SPARTANS all season long, and this weekend was no exception...LEE fired off a 3 POINT (1 GOAL and 2 ASSISTS) Effort versus NORTHERN MICHIGAN on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18...REIMER currently has 17 POINTS in 12 Games, which places him in 1ST on the SPARTANS and 11TH OVERALL for TOTAL POINTS in the NCAA...KEEP IT UP "L. REIMS"...

BRENDAN O'DONNELL - (FR) UND FIGHTING SIOUX
 O'DONNELL returned from Injury Nov. 19, and immediately made an impact with the SIOUX...BRENDAN notched his 1st NCAA GOAL (MANY TO FOLLOW) vs. THE BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19 in a 5-2 WIN...O'Donnell has battled the injury bug this season, and his HARD WORK is just beginning to pay off....WAY TO GO OD...


KATHERINE WILSON - (JR) UMD

ROLLIN...ROLLIN...ROLLIN...KATIE "THE WEEKLY WORD" WILSON makes her triumphant return this week after having a week long HIATUS (HAD TO GOOGLE THIS ONE)..."K.T. WILS" had a 4 POINT (2 + 2 ASSISTS) WEEKEND vs. THE BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS...WILSON has been on a ROLL this Season, and she currently has 15 POINTS (6 GOALS and 9 ASSISTS) in just 16 GAMES...NICE WORK KATIE...

"Brownie" was recently ranked 22nd OVERALL in the FALL 2011 NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING PRELIMINARY RANKINGS....The WARRIORS DEFENCEMEN has 3 ASSISTS and 4 PIM's in 17 GAMES... This is the first step in the 2012 NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING Rankings, which assist teams in the 2012 NHL DRAFT...KEEP GIVEN'R BROWNIE!!!

Frykas, makes her debut appearance on THE WEEKLY WORD, after Sniping 1 Goal vs. Clarkson.  This is Breann's first year as a Bobcat after she transferred from Wisconsin to become a member of Quinnipiac..

St. Croix has a big week coming up, as he was selected as a member of TEAM WHL who will participate in the SUBWAY SERIES, where they take on RUSSIA on November 17, 2011 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan...This series provides TEAM CANADA COACHES the opportunity to watch potential WORLD JUNIOR PROSPECTS...  The RINK TRAINING CENTRE would like to congratulate MICHAEL on being selected for TEAM WHL, and WISH HIM ALL THE BEST...  Watch for the game to be broadcast on ROGERS SPORTSNET NOVEMBER 17, STARTING @ 6 PM .......

JARED MORRIS - Winnipeg Blues
Morris has become a regular on THE WEEKLY WORD much to the delight of his Winnipeg Blues Teammates....The team has been on a tear, and Morris has been thrashing the competition night in and night out...Jared tallied 2 Goals and 4 Assists for 6 POINTS in just 3 GAMES...MORRIS currently sits in 8th overall in the MJHL...If this keeps up we might have to rename THE WEEKLY WORD as "THE WORD ON J MO"...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK PAL...





FROM PROVINCIAL MIDGET...
RILEY DERLAGO - Winnipeg Thrashers
This is Derlago's 1st appearance on THE WEEKLY WORD, as he chalked up a 3 point effort on REMEMBRANCE DAY, vs. the Brandon Wheat Kings.....1 GOAL AND 2 ASSISTS...Riley is currently sitting in 3rd on his team in points with 15 POINTS (6 GOALS AND 9 ASSISTS) in 16 GAMES...

TAYLOR WOODS  - BH Blazers (VARSITY PREP)
WOODS makes what is surely not her last appearance on THE WEEKLY WORD...She racked up 8 POINTS over a 3 GAME span with (3 GOALS and 5 ASSISTS)...TAYLOR currently leads the JWHL MAJOR LEAGUE in scoring with 42 POINTS (12 GOALS AND 30 ASSISTS) in just 15 GAMES PLAYED....Now that is IMPRESSIVE...

FROM THE NATIONAL WOMENS U-18 CHAMPIONSHIPS...
The RINK TRAINING CENTRE is proud to recognize the accomplishments of 3 Special Clients, DANIELLE LESLIE, RIKKI MEILLEUR, LARISSA MARTYNIUK and DANIELLE KRIZACHUK.  The Girl's and their Team Manitoba Teammates brought home a BRONZE MEDAL with a 3 - 1 victory over TEAM ATLANTIC, in Saguenay, Quebec.  CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GIRL'S AND TEAM MANITOBA.

Jared Morris - WINNIPEG BLUES
The Weather has been cold, but Morris and the Blues have been on FIRE since the middle of October.  This is Morris's second appearance in as many weeks....He recorded 4 points over two games on his team's Northern Manitoba Road Trip....He currently sits at 25 POINTS (11 GOALS and 14 ASSISTS) in just 23 GAMES.

PROVINCIAL MIDGET AAA...
Christian Stockl - WINNIPEG WILD
 The Winnipeg Wild are having quite the season, as they have continued their winning ways and are 15- 0.  Stockl has been leading the way for his team and last week was no exception....Christian put up 4 POINTS (2 GOALS AND 2 ASSISTS) in just 2 GAMES...Stockl Currently has 26 POINTS (17 GOALS and 9 ASSISTS) in just 13 GAMES.

Katie Wilson- (JR) UMD                       Katie "THE WEEKLY WORD" Wilson (say that 5 times fast) continues to tear up the NCAA Women's Division 1 College Ranks.  Wilson recorded a HAT TRICK (1st one in the WEEKLY WORDS existance) this past Saturday, October 29, to lead her Bulldogs to a sweep of the visiting Fighting Sioux from UND

FROM THE MJHL...

Jared Morris -WPG Blues                                   Morris has been "RED HOT" as of late and last weekend he continued his torrent pace.  Morris recorded a GOAL and 2 ASSISTS on Thursday, October 27th, and then followed that up with a 3 ASSIST night on Saturday, October 29.  Keep and eye on Jared and his Winnipeg South Blues, as they have been tearing up the "MJ" in the last couple of weeks.

Christian Stockl -Wpg Wild     Stockl and his Winnipeg Wild are off to a perfect start and sit in 1st place with 12 wins in 12 games....Stockl is a big reason for the team success, as he currently has an amazing 22 points in just 10 games played.

RIKKI MEILLEUR for being chosen to represent Manitoba as a member of our  U-18 Women's Hockey Team .

AUSTIN DOUGLAS for representing Manitoba at THE U 16 CHALLENGE CUP, where Austin and his Teammate earned a SILVER MEDAL.

WEDNESDAY, October 26, 2011 
  This week THE WEEKLY WORD will not only be providing you with some exciting news regarding the performances of some of our athletes, but we will also be filling you in on injury reports for some of our players who you may not have seen on THE "DUB'S" in the last couple of weeks.  HERE WE GO FOR ANOTHER WEEK... 
                  
FROM THE NCAA.....
Katherine Wilson - (JR) UMD
Wilson is becoming somewhat of a regular on THE WEEKLY WORD, as she continues to consistently contribute offensively to her teams success.  Although the Bulldogs were not able to record two points against Wisconsin this past weekend, Wilson was able to record a Goal on the weekend.

 
INJURY REPORT: Brendan O'Donnell -  (FR) UND
O'Donnell has not seen action with the Fighting Sioux since their opening weekend.  He is out with a lower body injury, but is expected back in two more weeks.  Keep an eye on THE WEEKLY WORD, as we expect Branden will be making an impact upon his return to the SIOUX.  

FROM THE WHL...
Michael St. Croix - Edmonton Oil Kings 
St. Croix makes his first appearance on THE WEEKLY WORD.  The Winnipeg Native was recently drafted by the NEW YORK RANGERS, in this past summers NHL ENTRY DRAFT.  Michael is known to be an offensive threat, and is just starting to heat up as the WHL Season gets under way.  St. Croix had a 3 point effort (1 Goal and 2 Assists) to help lead is Oil Kings to a 8-4 win over the Portland Winterhawks.  With the 3 point effort, St. Croix sits at 12 points (4 goals and 8 assists) in just 13 games.  This definitely won't be the last time we hear from St. Croix on THE WEEKLY WORD        

INJURY REPORT: Cole Hamblin - Spokane Chiefs   
Hamblin has been on the shelf for a couple weeks with a lower body injury.  The injury occured 3 weeks back and at the time was not expected to limit Cole to much.  But after further assessment it was realized the injury was more severe then expected.  Look for Cole to be back in the RED, BLUE AND WHITE, of the Spokane Chiefs in the near future.

From The NCAA...
Katie Wilson - (JR) Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs
Katherine Wilson (more commonly known as "KATIE" around THE RINK TRAINING CENTRE) makes her second appearance on "THE WEEKLY WORD".  
This past weekend Wilson again found the score sheet with a Goal and an Assist on Friday October 18, as her Bulldogs faced off against Connecticut in a Non - Conference Match up. Wilson, finished out the weekend with an Assist on Saturday, as her Bulldogs won their second in as many nights, with a 6 - 1 victory.  After another 3 point weekend, Wilson currently sits in second on Minnesota Duluth, with 6 points (2 Goals and 4 Assists) in just 4 games.  Add to that two appearances on "THE WEEKLY WORD", and Katie is having a great start to another hockey season.

From The WHL...
James Henry - Vancouver Giants (Captain)
Henry, Completes the Hat Trick on "THE WEEKLY WORD" as he continues to lead his Giants in Points with 15 points (3 Goals and 12 Assists) in just 10 games played.







**HONORABLE MENTION...
 
Justin Hamonic - Tri City Americans (ROOKIE)
The Rookie Defencemen scored his 1st WHL point, on Friday, October 14, with an Assist on the American's 2nd goal, in a lose to the Visiting Brandon Wheat Kings.  The Big, hard working defensemen has a tonne of potential and has a bright junior career ahead of him.

Jared Morris - Winnipeg South Blues (2nd year in MJHL)
Jared Morris Makes his first apperance on "THE WEEKLY WORD", after having a great start to his 2nd season in the MJHL.

Morris has started the season on Fire with 12 points (8 goals and 4 assists) in the first 13 games.
Keep an eye out for Jared, as he has really been coming into a zone since joining the Winnipeg South Blues

From the NCAA…..
Lee Reimer – (SO) Michigan State Spartans
On Saturday October 8, Reimer had a 3 point night (2 goals and 1 assist) to lead his Michigan State Trojans to a victory over the Air Force Academy at the 2011 Icebreaker Tournament in Grand Forks, ND.

The Landmark Manitoba native, makes his first appearance on WWOP's after a solid performance over the weekend, that was capped off with an Overtime Winner.



Katie Wilson – (JR) Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs
Wilson makes her debut appearance on the WWOP's after having a superb start to her Junior Season at Minnesota Duluth.
On October 8, 2011, Wilson's No. 7 ranked Bulldogs faced off against the No. 5 ranked Boston College Eagles.  Katie had a solid 3 point night (1 goal and 2 assists) to Lead the
                                                          Bulldogs to a 7-2 victory.

James Henry – Vancouver Giants
Henry, makes his second appearance on the WWOP's as he continues to tear up the WHL's competition, as he has registered 11 points (1 goal and 10 assists) in just 7 games, and he currently leads the GIANTS in Scoring.



From the MJHL…

Brendan Harms – Portage Terriers (Committed: Bemidji State 2012 – 2013)
Harms, returns for another week of WWOP's as he has been finding his teammates and the back of the net more frequently as of late.  He currently sits in 3rd on the Terriers for points with 6 points (3 goals and 3 assists).
