Gaborik scores a great goal on a 2 vs 1 against the Jets
Here is the breakdown
A. Poor Reads By The Jets In the Offensive Zone- As the puck gets below the goal line, the Jets are slow to react to the puck switching sides. The have 3 players below the puck with no support above it from the forwards. This is a position where the D-Man cannot pinch and Byfuglien does. The puck gets chipped by him and the Rangers are off to the races with the Jets back-checking.
B. Speed on Attack- The Rangers forwards take off as soon as they see the offensive opportunity. This speed does not allow the Jets back-checkers to even get close.
C. Showing Forehand- As the player with the puck comes into the zone he shows his forehand making the goalie hold this side of the ice thinking he may shoot it. Gaborik does a great job of creating a lane by placing his stick behind him to show his forehand. Many young players here want to open up for a one-timer. The problem with that is that you make it easier for the back-checker to catch you as you stop the forward progress to the net making their route shorter. WIth Gaboriks forehand showing the pass is forehand to forehand and in the back of the net.
This is great execution on a 2 vs 1. Come learn to be more of a threat for your team working on these types of skills.
