Spezza Scores a Beauty

Jason Spezza breaks out of a slump in a big way.

Here is the breakdown

A. Break-Out Support- As the Senators are coming out of the zone, the support for the puck carrier is almost perfect.  The passes are easy and are executed so the other player can receive them.  Both passes are made at good angles so that the puck can be advanced up the ice.

B. Speed and Puck Protection- Spezza receives this pass in full stride coming thru the Neutral Zone.  The drives wide on the defenseman and protects the puck.  Notice how he moves the puck away from pressure and uses his body to take the contact.  He is strong on the puck and doesn't allow for the D-man to push him off the puck.

C. Take it Across the Net- To finish off a great play, Spezza goes from backhand to forehand in tight and takes the puck hard all the way across the net.  As soon as his shoulders pass the defenders he cuts in to get to the net. Notice how as he is cutting to the net his feet are positioned to allow him to move across the net and keep the position he has established in front of the defender.  He cuts in hard to the net and quickly goes from backhand to forehand.
