Karlsson Comes Down Backside

The Sens do a lot of things well on the PP, finished off with Karlsson coming down the backdoor for a goal.

Here is the break down

A. Puck Movement- The Puck is moved very quickly around from low to high and then back down to the net.  This quick puck movement forces the penalty killers to move much quicker and will open up lanes to the net for better scoring chances.

B. Support- Watch how the player with the puck always has someone to move the puck to.  The key to a good power play is players working off the puck to make themselves available to help the puck carrier.  This 5 man attack allows for the Sens to create great chances leading to a goal.

C. Timing- The timing of players is very important all over the ice.  As the puck comes up to Gonchar at the top, he has support on the wall to dish the puck to.  He moves off the wall to create more space for this player as he drags the penalty killer to the middle.  When the forward on the wall (Spezza) has the puck, he has support down low and a shooting lane. He chooses to shoot the puck when the forwards down low jump on the rebound.  Alfredsson controls the puck and finds Karlsson moving into the net on the backdoor.  If his timing is too soon, the defenders will take this option away.  As he moves in, he makes the goalie move all the way across giving himself a better chance to score.

Great execution of a power play leads to a great goal.
